The route begins at kilometre 0 with a gentle and fast opening. From 0 km to 25 km, the terrain gradually descends from about 500 metres toward roughly 430–440 metres, creating smooth rolling conditions that encourage an easy rhythm. Although this section feels comfortable, it is best approached conservatively to preserve energy for later challenges.
Between 25 km and 50 km, the course transitions into persistent rolling terrain and long false flats. Elevation slowly rises again toward the 510–520 metre range, increasing effort without any dramatic climbs. This middle segment quietly builds fatigue and demands steady pacing and patience.
The decisive point arrives between 50 km and 60 km as cyclists meet Sunrise, where the route climbs sharply to above 600 metres with a gradient of 14.4% at its highest point as the race proceeds into Guzape. This sustained ascent is the hardest part of the course and serves as the true turning point where the winner of the race might be determined. Controlled effort and endurance management are essential here.
After cresting near 60 km, a fast descent toward 65 km provides partial recovery before rolling terrain resumes to 70 km. A final secondary climb, 3 Sisters, appears between 70 km and 80 km, shorter but challenging due to accumulated fatigue.
Beyond 80 km, the terrain eases into gentle rollers, allowing a strong and controlled finish as you begin to envision pumping of fists with Aso Rock in the background.
